SSM STEM Innovation Center
SSM STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) Innovation Center is established to teach World class technologies at SSM to foster innovations. The center is the outcome of the vision of ‘Cavalier’ Dr. M.S. Mathivanan, Chairman, SSM College of Engineering, to teach beyond the curriculum to impart skills in latest technologies. The activities and achievements made through SSM STEM Innovation center illustrates the distinctive impression created by SSM in the field of Engineering education.
Expert Guidance Through International Collaborations
The center is successfully functioning through International Memorandum of Understandings with STEMSEL Foundation, Australia, labtronics-Australia and Yunus Social Business Centre, Bangladesh. STEM Stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics and is a unique methodology of integrating the principles of Science, Technology, Mathematics in creating Engineering Applications. Such International collaborations enabled the faculty members and students of SSM to learn and experiment latest technologies through constant interaction with experts supporting from Australia.
Distinctive Facilities & Unique Methodology
SSM College of Engineering is having a World class Laboratory setup in the STEM Innovation Center including the Hardware and software tools to provide a unique Project Based Teaching and Learning blended with Fun filled Activity based teaching and learning. The distinctive Hardware facility available in the SSM STEM Innovation center is based on a Microchip board called as Inventor Kit.
The unique software facilities available in the center like EzSystem and Corechart helps tonprogram the microchip in quick and easy way. The project based methodology is designed in two learning levels - 1. Beginners level 2. Advanced Level. In Beginners level the students are given a Hands-on Experience to design and implement the hardware and software for simple application oriented projects like Smart street Light controller, Washing machine controller, Musical Buzzer etc.
The Advanced level projects are designed to teach the current trends in technology like Robotics and Automation, Data Acquisition, Bluetooth and WiFi Based control, Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Application Development etc. These advanced level projects are useful for the students to gain knowledge in current trends which can increase their confidence level to face the interview.
SSM STEM Innovator Certificate Courses and Workshop
The teaching and learning Process in the present engineering education scenario requires a fast updation in the technological skills. Hence there is a need to include training and skill up gradation programmes to the staff and students. To achieve this, SSM STEM Electronics Innovator Workshop is conducted for the Students & Faculty. The workshop helps to nurture the Ideas of Each and Every Student & help them to implement their ideas under the guidance of the faculty members.
The Participants of the Workshop will be provided a free Graphical Software Interface tool for Programming the Project Microcontroller Boards in a simple Graphical Drag & Drop manner without the need for High Level Microcontroller Programming Knowledge.

SSM STEM Innovation center has developed a unique activity based content for the delivery of the workshop with fun filled activities to enhance the level of understanding. The activities are designed to improve the communication skills, presentation skills, ability to solve a problem, ability to create a working model for the idea, Team building etc.

The STEM Project based teaching methodology is implemented in all the departments as it is a common training that helps to create working models.
Distinctive achievements by students
SSM STEM Inventors Workshop helped SSM students to win 15 Prizes in International Project Competitions including Best Exhibit Award.
Distinctive activities by SSM STEM innovation centre
Through STEM innovation center, faculty members of SSM have conducted workshops for the students of SSM as well as students from Government and private schools. The Faculty members of SSM STEM innovation center have been invited to conduct STEM Inventors workshop in other institutions in India, Anna University, Coimbatore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
SSM Faculty members conducted STEM workshop in various places of Malaysia like Sentul, Rawang, IPOH, Sungei Petani, Teluk Intan through the invitation of APEX Club Malaysia and IMEC Education group, Malaysia. SSM Faculty members also conducted workshop in Banten Province, Indonesia through the invitation by Tazakka Foundation. The workshops received a good feedback and appreciations in India, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Distinctive social responsibility activities
SSM STEM Innovation Center is also involved in various Social responsibility initiatives. SSM Faculty members conducted STEM Awareness programs in different schools in rural areas. The center is also closely associated with Deaf & Dumb school, Perundurai and has conducted STEM awareness to the Deaf & Dumb students with the help of sign language teachers.
In this way, SSM STEM Innovation center is committed to teach World class technologies for the benefit of students and society at large.
International collaborations @ SSM STEM Innovation Center Signing MOU for SSM STEM Innovation Center
MOU between SSM & STEMSEL Foundation, Australia is exchanged in front of the South Australian Minister for International Education & Investment & Trade & Defence Honourable MARTIN HAMILTON-SMITH at New Delhi.
