About the Department.
Physics
Established in 1998, the Department of Physics has maintained high academic standards since its inception. The department offers courses for all first-year B.E. and B.Tech. students, following the Anna University curriculum and Syllabus. It is supported by a team of highly qualified and dynamic faculty members with extensive academic and research experience.
Chemistry
This undergraduate course is designed to:
English
To meet the growing global demands, English classrooms at SSMCE have been redesigned to be situation-based and learner-oriented. To further enhance students' language proficiency, a fully equipped language laboratory is in operation. The lab offers a diverse collection of learning materials tailored to different proficiency levels. Additionally, the available software helps students prepare for competitive examinations.
Mathematics
Mathematics has been an integral part of SSM College of Engineering since its inception, with the department achieving significant accomplishments in key areas of applied mathematics.
As part of the Department of Science and Humanities, the Mathematics Department is dedicated to imparting strong mathematical knowledge to students of B.E., B.Tech., B.Sc., M.E., M.Tech., and MBA. This foundation supports their academic pursuits and helps them excel in both their studies and professional lives.
Additionally, the department strives to help students at SSM realize their mathematical, logical, and scientific potential by enhancing their ability to grasp abstract concepts and express them concisely and precisely.
Lab Facilities
Physics Laboratory
An Engineering Physics Lab is a fanatical space where engineering students perform practical experiments to gain hands-on experience with fundamental physics concepts, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering scenarios by utilizing specialized equipment to measure and analyze physical phenomena, thereby developing critical thinking, data analysis skills, and a deeper understanding of how physics principles are utilized in various engineering fields; essentially bridging the gap between theory and application in engineering practice.
Chemistry Laboratory
An Engineering Chemistry Lab is a dedicated space where engineering students perform experiments to gain practical experience with chemical principles and techniques that are relevant to their field, focusing on the application of chemistry in engineering processes like materials science, corrosion control, water treatment, and polymer analysis, allowing them to understand how chemical reactions and properties impact engineering designs and applications.
Language Laboratory
A "language laboratory," often shortened to "language lab," is a dedicated space equipped with audio and sometimes video technology where students can practice a foreign language individually, listening to model pronunciations, recording their own voices, and comparing them to the model, effectively allowing for self-paced, focused practice on listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills in a controlled environment; essentially acting as a tool to enhance language learning through active engagement and immediate feedback.
First Year B.E / B.Tech Computing Laboratory
A first year B.E / B.Tech computing laboratory is typically focused on introducing students to the fundamental concepts of computer programming, usually through a language like Python, C, by providing hands-on practice with basic syntax, data types, control structures, functions, and simple algorithms, often with a focus on problem-solving and developing logical thinking skills.
