Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) is sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The mission of EDC is to initiate and develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in science & technology academic institutions and to foster techno-entrepreneurship for generation of wealth and employment. EDCs are established in academic institutions (arts & Science colleges, Engineering colleges, universities, management institutes) having requisite expertise and infrastructure.
SSM College of Engineering was selected as a Nodal centre for Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) in the year 2005 by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
The purpose of this centre is to carryout the objectives and activities of National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) in setting up institutional mechanisms which could act as a support system for Technocrat Entrepreneurs in this region. It is SSM’s endeavor to create awareness and spread Entrepreneurship culture among the students, educated youth and the public at large in this Textile cluster of Tamil nadu to meet the challenges posed by the current era of Economic Liberalization, Privatization & Globalization (E-LPG).
A Charity Club with an aim of helping the poor and the needy people of our society including institutions like orphanages, home for the mentally challenged, adopted villages, is a part of the EDC program at SSM College of Engineering having more than 1500 students from all Engineering streams as members.
