Central Library
Central Library serves as the central support services of SSM College of Engineering. The mission of the Central Library is to provide the right information services to the right readers at the right time and access to bibliographic and full text printed resources to support the scholarly and informational needs of the Institute Community. The Central Library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROMs, On-line databases, audio video cassettes, books, e-journals, patents, e-standards, thesis, reports, monographs etc. The Central Library is fully automated with more than 53,341 books and about 350 Journals as well as online Journals on various Disciplines.
Membership
The Central Library enrolls the following types of members: The Detailed Application forms are available at circulation counter.
General Rules:
- Library is open on all working days from 9am to 6pm.
- Before entering the library user should leave their belongs at the proper counter and sign in the gate register.
- Eligible criterion for issue of books:-
- 5 books for UG Student
- 6 books for PG Student
- 8 books for Faculty
- Books will be issued only under non-transferable Library ID card
- If book is not returned on the due date, a fine of Rs.1 per day till the day of return should be paid.
- In case of damage or loss of book, the borrower should provide new copy along with over due charges.
- Writing in the books, tearing pages and tampering with date-slip are punishable offences.
- The reference books, journals are not allowed to take out of the library.
- Cell phone is strictly prohibited inside the library.
- Strict silence should be maintained in the library.
The above mentioned rules are subject to periodical reviews and revisions.

Technical Section
- Writing process slip for assigning call no. for the book received from the Acquisition section.
- Assigning call no. for the book with the help of DDC Scheme.
- Pasting the Spine and Date labels in the book.
- Preparing the list of the processed books during a month with bibliographical details, Accession no and location using Microsoft Word.
- Announcing the book list on the Library Web Site at the beginning of the month.
- Arranging the processed books to the Rack.
- Receiving the damage books from Circulation section
- Preparing the book binding list
Maintenance Section
- Conducting Stock verification
- Tracing of untraced publications
- Informing users about untraced publications
- Repairing of Books
- Assisting the users in tracing of publications
- Conducting orientation for usage of books
- Rectification of publications
Periodical Section
- Procurement of print, online journals & CD-ROM Databases
- Inviting Invoices from the Publishers for payment
- Tracking the supply position of Current Journals
- Sending the drafts received from the Accounts to the respective Publishers Registration and display of journals received
- Sending reminders for Non-Receipt of journals
- Attending queries pertaining to journals
- Correspondence with various Publishers/Agents/Departments/Centres of Institutions
- Monitoring expenditure on journals
Collections
The collection of the Central Library in the area of science & humanities, engineering & technology, social sciences, management, generalia etc. is very strong. The collection comprises mainly with books, theses, reports, current journals, back volumes, audio-video cassette, CD-ROM databases etc. The collection is heavily used by the faculty, students, retired faculty, alumni members, industrial associates, project coordinators, scholars. Total volumes of books are more than 32,299 Journals and Magazines are 215.
Services
In additional to all general services, the Central Library provides various value added, Book Reservation, Video Viewing, Inter- Library loan, Document Delivery, Reading, Access to E-Resources, Bibliographical Compilation,OPAC, Technical Consultancy ,Reprographics etc.
Online Journals
Online journals (Springer 573) are subscribed by the Central Library through the AICTE –INDEST CONSORTIUM on the recommendations received from the academic departments. Print journals are displayed in the Journal display racks.
