B.Tech - Textile Technology

About the Department

Profile

The Department of Textile Technology, established in 1998, offers a B.Tech Textile Technology (full-time) program approved by AICTE, Government of India. The program has duration of four years with an intake capacity of 60 students. Lateral entry admission is available; allowing diploma holders to join the program in the second year. The department was founded by pioneers in textile manufacturing and trade, bringing decades of expertise to the field.

AThe department has consistently maintained academic excellence. Students have secured gold medals and at least three university ranks annually from Anna University, showcasing their dedication and hard work. With a 100% placement record, graduates secure positions in leading textile and apparel companies. Some of the top recruiters include Shahi Exports, Best Corporation, Pallavaa Textile, SP Apparels, and Mulberry Silks. The average salary package is 3 LPA, reflecting the industry’s recognition of our students' technical expertise.

The NCUTE-funded IT Lab for Textiles, established in 2000, offers CAD training to students and industry professionals. The department also collaborates with ITEC and TAI, facilitating global partnerships and industry engagement. To bridge academia and industry, the department provides internships, live projects, industry-sponsored research, guest lectures, and industry visits. These initiatives ensure students gain practical exposure and are well-equipped for successful careers in the textile industry.

Vision

To be a well-recognized centre of excellence in textile technology education, research, and innovation, fostering industry-ready professionals who drive sustainable advancements in textile manufacturing, materials, and design.

Lab Facilities

Spinning Laboratory

The Spinning Laboratory is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of yarn manufacturing processes, from fiber preparation to final yarn formation. Equipped with ginning, blowroom, carding, drawframe, comber, and roving frame machines, the lab enables students to analyzefiber alignment, blending, and spinning techniques. By studying the mechanical and technological aspects of spinning, students develop expertise in producing high-quality yarns for various textile applications.

Weaving Laboratory

The Weaving Laboratory is a specialized facility dedicated to studying the principles and techniques of fabric formation through weaving. This laboratory enables students to explore various shedding mechanisms such as tappet, dobby, and jacquard, along with advanced dropbox looms and take-up mechanisms. Through hands-on experience, students gain an in-depth understanding of fabric construction, pattern development, and the influence of weave structures on fabric properties. The lab plays a crucial role in preparing students for the evolving needs of the textile and apparel industries.

Fabric Structure Analysis Laboratory

The Fabric Structure Analysis Laboratory focuses on evaluating the fundamental characteristics of textiles, such as density, weight, and structural integrity. Equipped with Beesley’s balance, crimp testers, GSM cutters, thread counting glasses, and magnifying glasses, this laboratory provides students with essential tools to examine fabric construction, analyze weave patterns, and assess material performance. Understanding fabric structure is vital for designing innovative textiles with enhanced durability and functionality.

Testing of Textile Materials Laboratory

The Testing of Textile Materials Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility designed to assess the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of fibers, yarns, and fabrics. With equipment such as fiber fineness testers, tensile strength testers, ballistic testers, fabric abrasion resistance testers, and air permeability testers, students gain hands-on experience in quality control, durability assessment, and performance analysis. This laboratory ensures that textiles meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, preparing students for roles in textile quality assurance and material development.

Textile Chemical Processing Laboratory

The Textile Chemical Processing Laboratory is dedicated to studying the dyeing, printing, and finishing of textiles through controlled chemical treatments. Equipped with HTHP beaker dyeing machines, steam agers, pilot curing chambers, and spectrophotometers, this facility enables students to explore coloration techniques, fabric treatments, and process optimization. The inclusion of printing tables, screens, and blocks provides practical exposure to textile printing and finishing processes, helping students develop innovative solutions for eco-friendly and sustainable textile production.
